'Building Community Resilience'
Friday 8th December 10.30am for 11.00am start

at Sassafras Hall (opp Mountain Highway)

We are welcoming Kelly Hofert from YRC who has been working on supporting Community Resilience for some time and supporting different areas to explore possibilities - HCA was represented recently at training paid for by YRC to attend training in Melbourne to explore the latest in disaster preparedness.

We have invited representatives from the local services, but most of all, we want local people to come along.

Please reply through Contact Us

We will have coffee and tea, mince pies etc - but feel free to get and bring a posh coffee from the PO or elsewhere local.

Update November 2023

HCA was set up after the Storm in June 2021 which destroyed and damaged around 200 homes in the Mount Dandenong communities along the Tourist Road, in Sherbrroke and Kalista, as well as properties in communities around 'the mountain'.

The Community Focus Friday sessions have started again on Friday 13th October 2023 from 10.30 - 12.30pm at Sassafras Community Hall.

~~~~~~~~~~~
We started 2023 with a range of exciting ideas to engage volunteers to help run a range of projects to help engage folks who may be feeling isolated because of the changes we have experienced in recent years,  with some funding to get us started
We will be posting an update here about these activities and to theat the Hills Community Recovery Committee.
Please contact us if you are interested in exploring volunteering opportunities...
We are fortunate to be supported a range of organisations who have agreed to work with us to develop community opportunities:
The Heart Foundation are going to help us develop a 'Walking for Health' programme - we are looking for people interested in training as Walk Leaders.
Volunteering Victoria are supporting us with advice and training to develop volunteer opportunities
Local GP practices and chemists are discussing ways we can work together.
and the list goes on ....    more details to follow
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Initially we had plans to engage creative artists, but this quickly expanded as HCA realised that support was needed for people affected by the storm, so we applied for funds and ran a range of activities in 2022 which included curating and running 'Reflections of the Storm' - a 4 month community art response hosted at Karwarra Gardens and Community Focus Friday sessions at Olinda Community House.

The HCA 2022 Annual Report is here  (just on its way!) Check here for HCA getting started in 2022
